ABSTRACT

Factors that are typically associated with better disease prevention and control, such as the health care expenses and the wealth of a nation, are no longer reliable predictors of disease parameters during the Covid-19 pandemic. In fact, we see many developed nations suffering from more widespread infection, a higher mortality rate, and longer pandemic duration. We analyse the performance outcomes of female-led vs. male-led countries in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. We employ regression analysis based on the full sample as well as a propensity score matched sample emphasizing women's roles in society. In general, we provide some evidence that female-led countries exhibit lower numbers of total population-weighted cases and shorter pandemic duration. © 2021 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

ABSTRACT

The spread of COVID-19 has led many people to turn to O2O platforms to buy daily supplies leading to a boom in the O2Oe-commerce industry. How to improve the service quality of O2O platforms to attract more customers has become an important concern for service providers. This study differs from previous statistical analysis studies in that it applies the data mining methodology to extract the key factors that affect the service quality of O2O e-commerce platforms. A hybrid multi-criteria decision-making method is then utilized to obtain the influence relationships and weights of the dimensions and criteria. The results suggest that privacy security, and reliability have a positive impact on social interaction, recommendation quality, efficiency and empathy. Empathy, social interaction and recommendation quality are the three most important factors for evaluating the service quality of O2Oe-commerce platforms. Finally, the theoretical implications and management implications based on the findings are discussed. © 2022 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To analysis effectiveness of the "14 plus 7 day quarantine" and "nucleic acid plus total antibody testing" strategy (combined screening strategy) for screenin the imported patients with COVID-19 in Xiamen. Methods: The study populations were overseas travelers arriving in Xiamen from March 17 to December 31, 2020, and overseas travelers who had quarantine outside Xiamen for less than 21 days from July 18 to December 31, 2020. Data were collected and analyzed on the timing of detection, pathways, and test results of the imported patients with COVID-19 after implementing combined screening strategy. Results: A total of 304 imported patients with COVID-19 were found from 174 628 overseas travelers and 943 overseas travelers from other cities. A total of 163 cases (53.6%) were diagnosed by multitime, multisite intensive nucleic acid testing after positive finding in total antibody testing. Among them, 27 (8.9%) were first positive for nucleic acid in 14 plus 7 day quarantine and 136 were first positive for nucleic acid in 14-day quarantine. Only 8 of these individuals were tested positive for nucleic acid after positive total antibody testing. The other 128 individuals were tested positive for nucleic acid after being negative for average 2.3 times (maximum of 6 times). Aditional 155 cases might be detected by using the combined "14 plus 7 day quarantine" and " nucleic acid plus total antibody testing" strategy compared with "14-day quarantine and nucleic acid testing" strategy, accounting for 51.0% of the total inbound infections. So the combined screening strategy doubled the detection rate for imported patients with COVID-19. No second-generation case caused by overseas travelers had been reported in Xiamen as of February 26, 2021. Conclusions: Xiamen's combined screening strategy can effectively screen the imported patients with COVID-19 who were first positive for nucleic acid after 14 day quarantine. Compared with "14 day quarantine and nucleic acid testing", the combined screening strategy improved detection rate and further reduced the risk of the secondary transmission caused by the imported patients with COVID-19.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: The aim of the present study was to investigate a relatively convenient, safe, and sensitive sampling method in the nucleic acid detection of the 2019-novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV). Materials and method: The nasopharyngeal swab samples of patients admitted to the 13 inpatient areas of the Tumor Center, Xiehe Hospital of the affiliated Tongji Medical College of Huazhong University of Science and Technology (temporarily transformed into a designated hospital for critical patients with COVID-19) from February 21 to 23, 2020 were used for the nucleic acid detection analysis of 2019-nCoV. The nasopharyngeal swab samples in the present inpatient area were obtained by a standardized sampling method. Results: A total of 663 samples were collected from the tumor center with 125 positive ones. Among these samples, 33 samples were collected from the present inpatient area, and 11 cases (33%) were positive. A further 630 samples were collected from other inpatient areas, in which 114 samples (18%) were positive. The difference in the positivity between the present inpatient area and other areas was statistically significant. Conclusion: The standardized nasopharyngeal swabs sampling had a high positive detection rate in the nucleic acid detection of 2019-nCoV and was safer and more convenient for medical staff and worthy of wider clinical use.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To investigate and analyze the epidemiological characteristics of a cluster of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) spread by a super spreader in Taizhou, Zhejiang Province, and provide reference for prevention and control of COVID-19. Methods: The field epidemiological investigation was conducted to investigate the confirmed cases and close contacts;the data were analyzed with descriptive method. Chi-squared test was used to compare the differences of attack rates among close contacts. Results: A total of 23 epidemiological related cases were identified, including 20 confirmed cases and 3 asymptomatic infection cases. Thirteen (56.52%) were males, ten (43.48%) were females, and the median age was 51 years old with the range of 30 to 70 years old. The second generation case firstly developed symptoms on Jan 19th and was confirmed on Jan 30th, 2020.The first generation cases were from Wuhan and the last case was confirmed on Feb 3rd, 2020.The epidemic spread to the fifth generation with a total attack rate of 6.07% (21/346), among which the third generation case was a super spreader who directly transmitted to 12 subsequent cases with a significantly higher attack rate than other cases (27.27% vs. 2.98%, χ2=39.754, P<0.001). Conclusion: The expansion of the epidemic can be attributed to the lack of timely control of imported personnel from high risk regions, the lacking awareness of novel infectious diseases at the early stage of the epidemic and the appearance of the super spreader. To form a normalized prevention mechanism, it is necessary to improve the alertness of novel infectious diseases among medical staffs and the masses, implement prevention and control strategies in time. © 2021, Editorial Department of Fudan University Journal of Medical Sciences.
